Take Forest Service road 250 and head east, almost exactly 6 miles starting from the Jasper sign. When you arrive at the turn for Silver Lakes / Trout Club, turn right (Picture 1).
and cross over the bridge. Follow this road for exactly 2 miles, passing the small private trout lakes. Please do not trespass or fish here, these are privately owned and maintained lakes. At the 2 mile mark from the turn, you will encounter a place where there are several forks in the main road. Turn on the left fork and park here (Picture 2).
The trail to Bottomless Lake is on the right fork but you should park on the left fork and walk down, because itโs rough. Exit your car and walk down the right fork, not far and you will encounter a loafing shed (Picture 3).
As you approach the loafing shed walking down the trail, notice the hill to the right of the shed. This is the beginning of the Bottomless Lake trailhead (Picture 4).
If you walk to the top of this small hill and look over, you should easily notice the beginning of the trail. If not, walk around the hill a little until you find it. It should be an obvious, well worn trail. From here, the total distance to the lake is about 1/3 of a mile. The trail meanders downwards, not very steep but there are a few small dips that require caution (Picture 5) (Picture 6).
Finally, as you approach the end, there will be a large, hilly clearing. Welcome to the southern cliff of the Bottomless Lake! (Picture7) (Picture 8).
This lake is called bottomless because it is very deep. Using a rock tied to a long string, I was able to measure the middle and it was nearly 30 feet deep. The cliffs have many different levels and well known for people jumping in to the lake. This is generally known to be safe if basic precautions and safety measures are followed. In addition to cliff jumping, this is a wonderful, scenic place to have a picnic so pack some drinks and sandwiches for your adventure. As always, take all trash with you on the way out. Finally, if you have a drone of waterproof camera, this is a great place to use them.
